The Best Places to Visit in Switzerland

Northern Switzerland

This part of the country is home to fabulous cities such as Zürich and Basel, and to stunning sights like the Rhine Falls. A boat trip on the Rhine is highly recommended, perhaps with some delicious Rhone or Rhein wines from neighbouring France or Germany.

Zurich is a wonderful place to stroll and it is home to world famous cultural landmarks such as St. Peter Kirche.

Lake Geneva Region

This tranquil lake is stunningly beautiful, and it is a meeting point of several different European countries. As well as the settlement of Geneva itself, you may also wish to check out places to stay in the equally beautiful Lausanne and Montreaux regions of Lake Geneva.

Canton of Valais

Located in the South West of Switzerland, the canton of Valais is home to beautiful villages, charming towns and mountains that rise to a majestic four thousand feet.

Among the best places to seek cheap accommodation in this canton include Zermatt and Matterhorn (great for mountain climbing enthusiasts, Verbier and Saas-Fee.

Central Switzerland

Another one of the best spots for cheap hotels and other budget accommodation is the centre of the country. We particularly recommend checking out the gorgeous Lucerne region, home to some wonderful ancient churches and of course Lake Lucerne itself.

Ticino Region

There are plenty of super budget hotels in Switzerland’s most southerly cantons. This region of the country is dominated by mountains, among which you can spot rugged castles and medieval churches, all of which are well worth a visit.

If you are keen for a nice place to stay, we recommend seeking your cheap accommodation in Lugano, Ascona, Locarno, and Mendrisiotto.

Graubünden

Another beautifully mountainous part of Switzerland home to beautiful towns and cities such as Chur, St Moritz, and Davos. We definitely advise considering a trip on the Glacier Express, which, thanks to its amazing vistas is world renowned as one of the greatest train journeys that it is possible to take.

Eastern Switzerland

The chic eastern part of the country is home to classy urban spaces such as Liechtenstein and St Gallen. If it is natural beauty you are after, then why not check out the cheap accommodation options near Lake Constance, or in the unforgettably beautiful ‘Heidiland’!

Bernese Mittelland

There are no less than eighty different municipalities in this part of the country, as well as plenty of lovely green spaces and untouched natural beauty too, so you are spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a place to stay.

We recommend starting off by checking out the budget hotels in Bern, Fribourg, Murten, and Aarau.

Bernese Oberland

The world famous Interlaken region of Switzerland is famous for its plentiful opportunities for skiing, hiking, and lakeside relaxing. Book in to one of the many budget hotels in the Grindelwald or Jungfrau region for a spot of climbing and hiking, for instance.

We definitely advise looking for places to stay in the beautiful Gstaad, Mürren, and Thun regions as well.

Jura Region

The High-Plateau are just 30 minutes away from the centre of Jura, making this the perfect place to stay on the cheap if you love hiking. This part of Switzerland is famous for its lovely and romantic scenery.

Wondering where to book your budget accommodation here? Well, there are so many options, but we suggest thinking first about areas such as Delémont, Porrentruy, and Neuchâtel.
